Sulam Yaakov Semicha Program
This two year program towards Rabbinical Ordination incorporates a classical approach to semicha grounded in the gemara and poskim, offering a thorough knowledge of the laws of issur v’heter while expanding your independent learning skills. This learning is embedded in a beit midrash which seeks to integrate the detail-oriented nature of halacha within a broad vision of how one lives as a Jew. Halacha is approached as a crucial tool in shaping one’s ability to serve Gd, Am Yisrael and the world.
The particpants in this program will be in session from 2-5 every afternoon. Included in these hours are three primary classes, two classes that focus on learning and skill acquisition in the Tur, Bet Yosef, Shulchan Aruch and later commentaries with Rav Mike Feuer, and one class offering guidance in practical p’sak from Rav Don Channen.
During the first 18 months we will prepare all the material required to sit for the Israel Rabbanut exam. In addition to the Rabbanut exam, participants will have the opportunity to prepare for private semicha from Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg and/or Rav Don Channen. Students who wish to receive semicha from Sulam Yaakov can do so as well, contingent on their participation in our morning bet midrash program. The final zman will be a seminar approach to practical rabbinics, and a Halachik primer in additional topics.
